Wrestling Biography

WWE superstar Chris Jericho was born on November 9, 1970, under the name Chris Irvine.  In addition to being a professional wrestler, Jericho is also an actor, singer, and DJ.  He has held a number of titles while wresting with the WWE, WCW, and ECW, including the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, WCW World Championship, Tag Team, Intercontinental, Hardcore, and European titles.

Following his training at the Hart Brothers Pro Wresting Camp, Jericho began his professional wrestling career in 1989 at the age of 19.  After wrestling for seven years in Mexico, Japan, and Canada, his career was jump-started by a 1996 appearance on ECW.  A few months later, he signed with WCW where he feuded with Chris Benoit, Rey Mysterio, and other superstars.  He wrestled on WCW for three years, winning the Cruiserweight and Television championships.  In 1999, he left WCW for the WWE.

When the year 2000 struck, Chris Jericho made his RAW debut, claiming he was going to make the WWE exciting again.  He feuded with many superstars, including the Rock, Chyna, Kurt Angle, and Chris Benoit.  He even attempted to win the WWE Championship title, but Triple H (whom he defeated) stripped him of the belt with the help of his wife, Stephanie McMahon.

In December of 2001, in a WCW / WWE cross-over event, Jericho defeated the Rock to claim the WCW title.  In his next match, he defeated Steve Austin and claimed the WWE Championship title, making him the undisputed champion.  However, he lost his WWE title to Triple H at WrestleMania X-8 in April of 2002.  Since then, Jericho’s WWE wrestling career has declined.  He has feuded with Christian over the attentions of Trish Stratus, and in the Summer of 2005, Jericho lost a match to John Cena.  Per the terms of the match, Jericho was forced to leave the WWE. In November 2007, following months of teasing by the WWE, he returned to feud with Randy Orton, including a WWE Title match which he won by disqualification.

Jericho turned on the fans when he attacked Shawn Michaels during an episode of "The Highlight Reel." This resulted in a series of matches which many fans called the "Feud of the Year." Jericho ended up losing the feud in an unsanctioned and final match at Unforgiven but later that night, he subbed in a Championship Scramble match and won the World Heavyweight Championship. He lost the belt to Batista at Cyber Sunday but won it back eight days later on RAW in a Cage match. He finally lost it for good to a returning John Cena at the Survivor Series. He went on to win the Superstar of the Year 2008 Slammy Award.

In 2009, Jericho has feuded with Rey Mysterio for the Intercontinental Championship (which he won for the ninth time), and legends such as Ric Flair, Roddy Piper, and Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat. He was also involved in a war of words with movie star Mickey Rourke who appeared in the ring with Jericho at WrestleMania 25. He is currently Unified Tag Team champion with Big Show. Jericho and Show lost their Tag belts to D-Generation X in a TLC match.
