Wrestling Biography

Jimmy Wang Yang, born as James Yun on May 13, 1981, is a WWE superstar appearing on Smackdown.  In addition to wrestling, Yang has done some acting as well, including making an appearance in the movie Royal Kill and doing voice work for the WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2009 video game.

Yang first rose to fame as part of the Jung Dragons, a team of three wrestlers (Yang, Jamie-San, and Kaz Hayashi) who appeared in World Championship Wrestling. In 2001, following the WWE’s purchase of WCW, Yang was given a developmental contract and assigned to the Heartland Wrestling Association.  However, the company later released him after they decided not to add him to their roster.

Following this, Yang joined All Japan Pro Wrestling as both a solo junior heavyweight wrestler and as a part of a tag team.  In 2002, Yang joined TNA Wrestling as a part of the Flying Elvises. As part of this team, he was featured in the first TNA match, a six-man tag team battle in which he and his teammates won.

In 2003, the WWE once again offered Yang a contract, and this time, he was added to the main roster.  Under the name Akio, Yang debuted on WWE in October of 2003.  He and Ryan Sakoda formed the tag team Kyo Dai.  However, Sakoda did not stay with the WWE for long, and Yang soon found himself a lower-ranked solo wrestler. In 2005, he once again left the WWE and joined Ring of Honor.  There, he lost most of his first matches.

In May of 2006, the WWE once again asked Yang to return as Akio for a test match.  Yang impressed the executives, and he once again received a contract.  On September 29, 2006, he made his Smackdown debut under the name Jimmy Wang Yang.  He immediately began a feud with Sylvan and became a contender for the Cruiserweight title.  In 2007, he feuded with Chavo Guerrero. Since then, Yang has mostly been used as enhancement talent.
