Wrestling Biography

David Edward Finlay, better known as the WWE superstar Finlay, was born in 1958, making him one of the older wrestlers on the WWE roster.  He picked up more than a dozen titles alone before moving to the U.S. in the mid 1990s.  This Irishman is known as a man who loves to fight, and he has proven it time and time again during his time with the WWE.

Once Finlay arrived in the U.S., he worked for WCW from 1995 to 2000.  There, he won several titles and made a name for himself, but in 2000, he decided he needed to take some time off from the world of professional wrestling.  He returned to the ring in 2004.

In 2006, Finlay moved to SmackDown.  There, he was immediately put in a match against Matt Hardy, which he lost due to a disqualification.  His character was quickly set up as a heel who was not afraid to fight dirty to win.  He was teamed with Hornswoggle, a little leprechaun who popped out from under the ring to help Finlay win.  However, later in 2007, the two would turn face.

Finlay was slated to participate in the 2008 Royal Rumble, but he was disqualified once again after attacking Big Daddy V and Mark Henry.  He and Hornswoggle were then shifted to the RAW franchise and involved in a storyline with Vince McMahon.  This storyline ended with Finlay announcing that Hornswoggle was truly his son.

The pair then made their return to SmackDown in April of 2008.  The two became a tag team, and in June, they challenged Miz and John Morrison for the Tag Team Championship.  However, they lost this title match, and they failed to claim the titles at the Great American Bash four way tag match as well.

Finlay would move to ECW following these losses, and there, he feuded with Mike Knox.  He would also get a chance to fight for the ECW Championship at the ECW Scramble Match, but he once again failed to win the belt.  He fought Matt Hardy for the ECW title in November, but again, he lost.

In February of 2009, however, Finlay became the first wrestler to defeat Jack Swagger, giving him a title match against Swagger at No Way Out which Swagger won. After suffering an eye injury in May 2009, Finlay returned to participate in the Championship Scramble for the ECW Title at The Bash. He was not sucessful in his title bid but was drafted to Smackdown in June.
