Wrestling Biography

Beth Phoenix was born Elizabeth Kocanski in November of 1980.  This WWE superstar has held the WWE Women’s title twice - in 2007 and 2008 - and currently appears on Smackdown.

Phoenix began her wrestling career in high school, where she was her school’s first varsity female wrestler.  Following that, she joined USA Wrestling before turning professional.  She studied at Canisius College before joining Ohio Valley Wrestling in July of 2004, where she initially served as manager to several different wrestlers.  After joining RAW, she appeared less frequently at OVW events, making her final appearance on August 15, 2007, before becoming a full-time WWE personality.

Phoenix’s first WWE debut was on May 8, 2006.  She appeared on RAW as an ally to James, although the two quickly parted ways.  She then became an official RAW diva and began competing against other women, including Trish Stratus and Torrie, for the Women’s title.  However, in June of 2006, she suffered an injury that put her on the disabled list for two months.  She was able to spend some time back at OVW while she made a full recovery.

In July of 2007, Phoenix returned to RAW as a heel character. There, she began attacking many other characters and feuded with Candice Michelle.  She defeated Candice at No Mercy to grab her first Women’s title, only to lose it to Mickie James in 2008.

In July of 2008, Phoenix actually wrestled with a man, Santino Marella, after he issued an open challenge.  The two feuded for a bit before kissing and becoming an onscreen couple.  They competed in a mixed tag team match that resulted in Phoenix capturing the Women’s title again. However, she lost it once again at the 2009 Royal Rumble. She participated in the 25 Diva Battle Royal at WrestleMania 25 but was eliminated by Marella, who was dressed as his twin sister "Santina." They had a brief feud when Phoenix unsuccessfully challenged for the Miss WrestleMania crown that "Santina" won.  After one more unsuccessful Divas championship opportunity, Phoenix was traded to Smackdown.
