Dave Bautista

Wrestling Biography

Dave Bautista (Batista) has proven that he's more than a match for any wrestler and has held a number of championship belts, including the World Tag Team Championship (3 times), the World Heavyweight Championship (4 times), the WWE Tag Team Championship, and the 2005 Royal Rumble.

Batista began wrestling with WWE in 2002 under the name of Deacon Bautista. His debut match was with D-Von against Randy Orton and Faarooq, where he pinned Orton. For much of 2002, Batista worked with D-Von, but he eventually turned on his ally and signed on with RAW. There, he joined up with Ric Flair and often battled against Kane.

The next year, Batista made some very powerful alliances with WWE Superstars, Triple H, Randy Orton and Ric Flair. They formed the four-man stable of Evolution. However, Batista tore his right triceps in a match that forced him to sit out for much of 2003. He was able to return to RAW in October of 2003.

In 2004, Batista took part in the 2004 Survivor Series, an 8-man elimination tag match that gave Evolution the chance to control RAW. After losing, Triple H and Batista started a feud, and in 2005, Batista went against Triple H's wishes and defeated John Cena for the Royal Rumble win. Triple H then tried to have Batista run over so he would not challenge him for the WWE Championship. However, Batista became aware of his plot and left Evolution, turning face for the first time.

In 2006, Batista once again tore his triceps and had to return to the sidelines and relinquish his World Heavyweight Championship title. After successful surgery, he made an appearance at WrestleMania 22, informing the world that he was coming back for his heavyweight title. He regained the title later that year and defended it through 2007, until he lost it to the Undertaker. He then began feuding with Shawn Michaels after Michaels retired Batista's close friend Ric Flair at WrestleMania 24. They were engaged in two matches with the final one being a stretcher match that Batista won. He was then drafted to RAW in June 2008.

Batista became Tag Team Champion with John Cena but they quickly lost the belts on an episode of RAW. After defeating Cena at Summerslam, he went on to defeat Chris Jericho at Cyber Sunday for his fourth World Title reign but Jericho won it back eight days later in a Steel Cage match on RAW. Batista's next feud was with former Evolution member Randy Orton but in December 2008, he tore his hamstring and was out of action for four months.  He became WWE Champion in June 2009 but had to relinquish the title after tearing his biceps.

After returning from injury in September 2009, it was announced that Batista would be going back to Smackdown. He began a feud with Rey Mysterio after losing a Fatal Four Way match (which included Mysterio) at Bragging Rights after Mysterio broke up a sure win for Batista. After Batista beat up Mysterio in their match, he became the number one contender for the Undertaker's World Heavyweight Championship title.  However, in a Chairs match, Batista came up short against the Undertaker in his bid to regain the World Championship.
