Wrestling Biography

Gail Kim is a WWE superstar who, unlike most other wrestlers, uses her real name in the ring.  Born in Canadian to Korean parents, Kim appears on Smackdown.  She has held the WWE Women’s title.  After completing her nutrition degree, Kim joined Ron Hutchinson’s wrestling school.  After working for several small wrestling promotions and the independent circuit, she met Molly Holly in 2001.  Holly convinced her to send in an audition tape to the WWE, and in 2002, she was hired.

Kim spent eight months at Ohio Valley Wrestling, and on June 30, she appeared on RAW using a gimmick and outfit inspired by the film The Matrix.  She first debuted in a seven-woman battle for the WWE Women’s title, and surprisingly, she won.  She kept the belt for a month before losing it to Molly Holly.  Kim joined forces with Trish Stratus, then with Holly to fight against Stratus.  However, Kim was later forced to take some time off after breaking her right collarbone.

Kim returned in April of 2002.  She reunited with Holly, but in November of 2004, she was suddenly released from her contract.  She then returned to the independent circuit before joining TNA.  She appeared in matches for TNA from 2005 until 2008.  While there, she feuded with Jackie Gayda and several others.  In 2006, she was “injured” by Shawn Hernandez and moved out of the ring and into a valet position for America’s Most Wanted.  She later saved Petey Williams from an attack by James Storm and became his manager.  The two competed in mixed tag matches several times.  At Lockdown, Kim and Jacqueline Moore competed in the first steel cage match on TNA.  Kim won the fight.

In 2007, Kim was named the TNA Knockout of the Year.  She teamed with O.D.B. several times, but in February, the two had a miscommunication that resulted in their tag team dissolving.  She later won the first women’s ladder match, but she was storyline injured again shortly thereafter.

In 2008, Kim’s TNA contract expired, and she left the company.  In February of 2009, she re-signed with the WWE and appeared as a face character on Smackdown.  Her first match was on March 30 when she competed in the RAW 18-Diva tag match.  Kim’s team won. Since her return, Kim has been in the running for numerous championship matches but has yet to break though and win a title.
