Wrestling Biography

WWE superstar Evan Bourne, born Matthew Korklan on March 19, 1983, wrestles on ECW.  Before joining the WWE, however, Bourne wrestled for many independent promotions, including Ring of Honor and several Japanese promotions.  He also wrestled for some of TNAs pay per view events.

Bourne wrestled for much of his life, beginning in high school.  He joined Gateway Championship Wrestling in 2000, and in 2003, he started wrestling for various other promotions.  He picked up the IWA Mid-South light Heavyweight title, his first wrestling title, in 2004.  He also wrestled for NWA during this time.  While he wrestled for other groups over the next several years, including the WWE, Bourne continued to make some IWA appearances up through 2007.

In 2004, he joined Total Nonstop Action for several matches.  That same year, he started wrestling for Ring of Honor, and he would stay with that promotion until 2007.  There, he ended up in a Steel Cage Warfare match along with his stable, the Embassy.  He later joined Christopher Daniels in an attempt to win the ROH Tag titles.  They did in 2006, and they continued to defend those titles until February of 2007.  Later in 2007, Bourne signed a WWE development deal and left ROH.

Bourne first joined the WWE developmental promotion of Ohio Valley Wrestling.  He picked up the OVW Heavyweight title, but when the WWE split with OVW in February of 2008, Bourne moved to Florida Championship Wrestling.  There, he made his debut by defeating TJ Wilson, but before Bourne could capitalize on this win, he was transferred to the main WWE roster.

On June 3, he made his debut on ECW on Sci-Fi.  He lost his first match, but he still became a full ECW member.  He also started using the name Evan Bourne instead of Matt Sydal, his previous in-ring name.  He joined with Kofi Kingston in a tag team.  He also made a few appearances on RAW and helped Rey Mysterio.  Bourne battled Matt Hardy for the ECW title at Cyber Sunday, but he lost.  He was injured a few days later and was out of the ring for several months.  On March 17, 2009, he returned to ECW and began a feud Mark Henry which saw him pick up two wins over Henry.

In June 2009, Bourne was traded to Raw.
