WWE superstar Melina Perez was born in March of 1979.  She generally goes by just her first name when she wrestles on Raw.  Melina has been a part of the WWE since 2004, and as of November 2009, she is the current WWE Divas Champion.

Melina worked on the independent circuit before joining the WWE.  She trained at Ohio Valley Wrestling, and while there, she met Johnny Nitro and Joey Mercury.  The three became MNM, and Nitro and Mercury claimed the OVW Southern Tag titles under Melina’s management.  Before becoming an official part of the WWE in 2004, she made a few appearances on Smackdown and Raw. In November of 2004, she made her Raw debut, although it was in a fashion show, not in the ring. 

MNM moved up to Smackdown in April of 2005 as a heel tag team, and Melina accompanied them.  Nitro and Mercury picked up the WWE Tag titles in their first match.  Melina soon began calling herself the most dominant WWE Diva, and she feuded with many of the other Divas.  Her first in-ring match was in June of 2005, and she appeared at The Great American Bash and in several Diva battle royals. 

In 2006, MNM split, and Melina and Nitro moved to Raw.  She continued to work as Nitro’s manager while making occasional appearances in the ring, including several with Nitro as part of a mixed tag team.  She formed a friendship with Mick Foley only to later betray him.  She also began screaming while standing at ringside, a new gimmick for her character.

In 2007, Melina became the top contender for the Women’s title, and while she lost several title matches, she did win it in February.  She then feuded with Ashley Massaro, a feud that ended at WrestleMania 23.  She would later lose the Women’s title, regain it, and lose it again at Vengeance.  However, this fan favorite fought back, and even after an injury in June of 2008, she still managed to claim the title in January of 2009 by beating Beth Phoenix. She was drafted over to Smackdown and ended up losing the title to Michelle McCool in July.

After being traded to RAW in October, she beat Jillian in her first match back right for the Divas championship, a mere 30 seconds after Jillian beat Mickie James for the title.
