Jim Duggan

Wrestling Biography
Duggan wrestled in high school, and he began playing football in college. He was signed with the NFL, but he was unable to play due to knee injuries. In 1979, he had his first professional wrestling match. Duggan quickly made a name for himself and was approached by Vince McMahon Sr. He was soon signed with the WWE and began training at Georgia Championship Wrestling. In 1982, he began wrestling for Mid-South Wrestling, where he and Magnum T.A. won the Mid-South Tag title.
In 1987, he was moved to the main line of the WWE. He first appeared at WrestleMania III. The next year, the first Royal Rumble was announced, and Duggan claimed the win. However, by the middle of 1992, Duggan’s career was flagging. He made several title shots, but after losing the King of the Ring, he left the WWE.
In 1994, Duggan joined WCW, where he would win the US Heavyweight title. After losing the title, he started appearing on WCW Saturday Night, and he would stay with the program until 1998. Towards the end of 1998, he was diagnosed with kidney cancer. He left professional wrestling for over a year to deal with his illness. He would return in WCW in 1999 and became the new (and final) WCW World Television Champion. When the WWE bought out WCW in 2001, Duggan left for the independent circuit. He wrestled there until 2005, when the WWE offered him another contract. Since then, he has appeared on Raw and Heat. He also participated in the 2008 and 2009 Royal Rumbles. In recent years he has feuded with a who's who of WWE superstars such as Edge, Randy Orton, and the team of Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes.
