WWE superstar Cody Rhodes was born Cody Runnels on June 30, 1985.His father is WWE wrestler Dusty Rhodes, and his half-brother is Golddust.He began wrestling in high school, and continued while in college.By 2006, he had been signed to a WWE developmental contract and began wrestling for Ohio Valley Wrestling.
Rhodes first appeared in the ring with Shawn Spears as part of a tag team.The two won the OVW Southern Tag title several times, although they eventually split up.Rhodes would then claim the OVE Heavyweight title and the Television title (defeating Spears to claim it).Starting in June of 2007, Rhodes began appearing in dark matches on Smackdown.
In his Raw television debut on July 2, 2007, Rhodes appeared with his father Dusty Rhodes and began a feud with Randy Orton after he disrespected Dusty.Orton defeated Rhodes in his first match.The two then clashed at the Great American Bash and continued to battle on Raw for months.Following that, Rhodes feuded with Daivari, Charlie Hass, Shelton Benjamin, and Hardcore Holly.He formed alliances with various other Raw superstars, including Paul London, Brian Kendrick, and Mickie James.
Holly and Rhodes eventually formed a tag team, claiming the tag titles and giving Rhodes his first WWE title.However, Rhodes betrayed Holly, turning heel for the first time in his career.He then paired with Ted DiBiase, and the two won and held the title until their defeat by CM Punk and Kofi Kingston.Currently, Rhodes is a part of the Legacy stable along with DiBiase and Randy Orton. The biggest win of their young careers was beating Degeneration X (Triple H and Shawn Michaels) in a Submissions Count Anywhere match at Breaking Point in September 2009.
In his off time, Rhodes is a professed video game player.In fact, his wrestling outfit includes boots marked with the Triforce, a symbol from Rhodes’s favorite game series, The Legend of Zelda.
