Matt Striker

Wrestling Biography
Matt Striker was born as Matthew Kaye in 1974. Originally, Matt Striker worked as a professional social studies teacher in New York before making the transition over to the wrestling community. His teaching career came to an end when someone saw him on an episode of WWE SmackDown and it was found out that he was using sick days to wrestle. He was subsequently fired and Matt Striker took this opportunity to turn his attention to wrestling professionally, full-time.
His first appearance on WWE was during a commercial for a pay-per-view event in 2002. While he did not wrestle at this time, he did go on to compete in events during February of 2005. It was during this time that his teaching career came out, and after that he went onto make another professional appearance in WWE in July of that same year, although he did so under the name Matt Martel.
During a match, WWE superstar Kurt Angle pointed out to the crowd that Matt Striker was the same guy from the news who had been fired from his teaching position. After calling him a liar Angle went onto defeat him. Matt Striker tried once again to defeat Angle a week later at an invitational tournament for WWE in Philadelphia again under the name Matt Martel. The match did not end that well for Striker, who was once again defeated by Angle after being branded a liar.
During this time, the WWE chose to officially sign Matt Striker to a contract, which marked his beginnings as an official wrestler for the group. His first official debut took place on August 7th, 2005 during an episode of “Heat.” In this match, he went up against Johnny Parisi and won. After this Matt Striker went onto work for the WWE for an entire year.
However, in August of 2006 he transferred over to the ECW side of the WWE. Shortly after his change over to the ECW Striker got in trouble by issuing a controversial statement concerning the death of Steve Irwin who was a wildlife expert from Australia. This caused the WWE to have to issue a statement of apology for the remarks. He joined The New Breed stable that went up against the ECW Orginals.
Matt Striker now continues his relationship with the WWE through the ECW as a commentator. He is currently on Smackdown as a replacement for Jim Ross while he recovers from another Bells Palsy attack.
