Josh Matthews

Wrestling Biography
Josh Matthews was born Josh Lomberger in November of 1980. He works as an announcer and presenter for WWE and currently provides play by play commentary for the WWE superstars on ECW under the name Josh Matthews.
Matthews placed third at the very first WWE Tough Enough contest in 2001, losing to Maven and Nidia. However, Matthews impressed Al Snow and Tazz with his dedication and desire to be in the industry. Even though he didn’t win the contest, Matthews would go on to have a longer career with the WWE than any of the other contestants from any Tough Enough season.
After losing the contest, Matthews worked the independent circuit and wrestled for the X Wrestling Federation. He was later picked up by the WWE as an interviewer. He did some announcing work on WWE Velocity, and it was here that he first gained fame as an announcer. He appeared every now and then on SmackDown, where Bradshaw once slapped him for disrespecting Orlando Jordan. He later joined Booker T as a temporary replacement for Booker’s tag partner. The two won the match.
Matthews was attacked by Jordan, leading to a match between the two. Booker T got involved, and while Matthews won, he did so only with help. He later tried to repay the favor at the Survivor Series, but JBL attacked him. Matthews was then attacked by Heidenreich, spat on by Carlito, and possessed by the Undertaker.
Following 2005, Matthews shifted more to announcing and commentating. He served as host of WWE Fantasy Weekly Webcast, and he filled in for Todd Grisham in RAW for a time. He provided commentary for Heat off and on until the show ended in May of 2008. He also served as RAW’s backstage interviewer and was the WWE correspondent for both Republican and Democratic National Conventions during the WWE’s push for voter registration.
In 2005, Matthews interviewed former referee Tim White to set up a Hell in a Cell match for Armageddon 2005. White spoke about how the match caused him numerous injuries. He then attempted “suicide” as per the storyline. This led to Matthews and White appearing in a number of online bits in which White tried to kill himself and Matthews stopped him. Matthews was “shot” in the final episode.
In April of 2009, Matthews was announced as the new commentator for ECW on Sci-Fi.
