Wrestling Biography
The WWE superstar known as Christian was born William Reso on November 30, 1973, in Ontario, Canada. He grew up alongside his best friend, Adam Copeland, who would later wrestle in the WWE as Christian’s partner Edge. Christian made his professional debut as Christian Cage, but he eventually dropped Cage from his name. He has held the NWA World title, the ECW title, and the Intercontinental title, among others. With various partners, he has been the WWE World Tag Team Champion nine times (he and Edge won seven of those titles together).
Christian joined the WWE in 1998 as an ally of Gangrel and a rival of Edge (who was presented as his brother). However, the two eventually teamed up in the Summer of 1999 and, as a tag team, they picked up an unprecedented seven wins. They spent much of their time feuding with the Dudley Boyz and the Hardy Boyz, competing in a number of intense matches, including several Tables, Ladders, and Chairs battles. Unlike the other two teams, though, Christian and Edge goofed around and infused some humor into their storylines.
In 2001, the two split and wrestled against each other for the Intercontinental belt. Christian also decided to join the WCW & ECW alliance in their battle against the WWE. In 2002, Christian joined with Lance Storm and Test to become the Un-Americans. The next year, he became friends with Chris Jericho, but that friendship ended in 2004 after Jericho began romancing Trish Stratus. The two battled at WrestleMania XX, where Trish betrayed Jericho and sided with Christian. The two joined with Tyson Tomko to ruin Jericho’s life. However, this storyline was cut short when Christian was injured during the summer.
Christian joined SmackDown in 2005 and starting using the gimmick of Captain Charisma. However, some copyright issues prevented him from using it for long, and in November of 2005, he left the WWE for TNA. There, he used the name Christian Cage, and in 2006, he picked up the NWA World Title. He made a return to the WWE in 2009 and quickly won the ECW Championship.
