Kurt Angle


Wrestling Biography
Kurt Angle was born in Pennsylvania in 1968 and is a former three time NCAA All-American anda two time National Champion in Wrestling. Angle went onto to compete for the USA in the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia and won the gold medal 198-220 lb weight class. Soon after this, turned down a contract from the WWE and went to an ECW taping to check out the promotion but left soon after Raven "crucified" The Sandman. In October 1998, he signed an eight year contract with the WWE and spent the next few months training and wrestling dark matches to get ready for his debut.
Kurt's debut in the ring was November 1999 defeating Shawn Stasiak. He remained undefeated untile Tazz debuted and beat him at the Royal Rumble in January 2000. He went onto win both th Intercontinental and European Championships but lost both in a two falls Triple Threat match against Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit. In mid-2000, he joined forces with Edge and Christian to feud with Too Cool and Rikishi and defeated Rikishi in the finals of the King of the Ring. After this, a love triangle started between Angle, Triple H, and Stephanie McMahon. He lost Triple H and he began to chase the WWE Championship eventually winning the title defeating The Rock for his first title. He held onto the title for four months before losing it to The Rock at No Way Out 2001. A feud started between Angle and Chris Benoit which resulted in numerous technical classic matches between the two.
During the Invasion angle, Angle and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin led the WWE against the Alliance but Austin went over to the side of the Alliance. Angkle won all the WCW Championships and got to Austin to defeat him for the WWE Title at Unforgiven. He lost it back and eventually joined the Alliance. He returned to the WWE side after helping The Rock defeating Austin and defeating the Alliance. Afte the Invasion was over he had a feud with Edge, which resulted in Angle's head being shaved. Angle being bald led to a feud with Hulk Hogan where Angle got a submission win over him. Angle also became the fifth WWE Grand Slam Champion after winning the WWE Tag Team titles with Chris Benoit but bickeing led to them losing the titles. Angle won his third WWE Title from the Big Show in December 2002.
Angle began feuding with Brock Lesnr after Lesnar won the Royal Rumble. He went onto lose the title to Lesnar at Wrestlemania 19. Angle took time off for neck surgery He returned to win the WWE Championship and feud with Lesnar and Eddie Guerrero upon his return and as Smackdown General Manager. Toward the end of his time in the WWE, he won the World Heavyweight title and joined the newly reborn ECW brand. He left the WWE in August 2006 due to personal issues which he says he was not allowed to go to rehab.
In September 2006, Angle joined TNA and made an Impact as special enforcer in the main event of Bound for Glory and feuding with Samoa Joe. Angle ended Joe's undefeated streak and earned an NWA Heavyweight Title match against Christian Cage which he lost with help from Scott Steiner. After a feud against Steiner,Angle won the TNA Heavyweight title from Cage but the title was held up after controversy with the titles arose and led to a King of the Mountain match which Angle won. Angle eventually won all the belts in TNA after defeating Samoa Joe for his X Division and Tag Team championships. He lost the latter two titles in one night and lsot the World Title to Sting at Bound for Glory 2007 but won it back a few weeks later.
Angle then joined forces with two factions the first being the Angle Alliance which led to a feud with both AJ Styles and Jeff Jarrett during this time. He also lost to Samoa Joe for Angle's World Title. Angle also started the Main Event Mafia with Sting, Kevin Nash, and Scott Steiner. This group pratically held almost every title in TNA at one time with the exception of the X Division title and Angle once agin won the annual King of the Mountain match at Slammiversary 2009 for the TNA World Title. The end of the Mafia came at No Surrender when he lost the title to AJ Styles in a five way match.
Angle recently had a feud with debuted Desmond Wolfe (Nigel McGuiness) and lost a match against AJ Styles for the TNA Heavyweight Title on the January 2010 edition on Impact.
