Wrestling Biography

Patrick Martin is better known in the wrestling world as Alex Shelley. He started his career training with Bobo Brown but moved to Scott D'Amore Can-Am Wrestling. After his debut, he suffered a broken jaw but made his return eight months later in IWA Mid-South. He stayed there for six months before moving to CZW and finally ended up in Ring of Honor.

His time in Ring of Honor overlapped his time with TNA but while in ROH in 2004, he led a stable called "Generation Next" with Roderick Strong, Austin Aries, and Jack Evans. During this time, he lost to Doug Williams for the ROH Pure Championship and lost to Austin Aries for the ROH World Title after Aries kicked him out of "Generation Next" a few months earlier. He wrestled every so often in ROH but wrestled mainly in TNA.

Shelley made his TNA debut in July 2004 and was dubbed "Baby Bear" Alex Shelley but after not being used, he asked for his release late in 2004. He was brought back in June 2005 and he won the Chris Candido Memorial Tag Team Tournament with Sean Waltman.  Both were granted a NWA Tag Team Championship match but Shelley lost to Team Canada after Waltman no showed the event and Shelley wrestled alone. In late 2005, he wrestled in the X-Division and reformed the "Generation Next" stable with Aries and Strong but this only lasted briefly as Strong and Aries were suspended.

Shelley joined forces with Jeff Jarrett to record candid moments to intimidate wrestlers that were in Jarrett's crosshairs. During this time, he also joined up with Kevin Nash as Nash was trying to destroy the X Division. This turned into Nash trying to help out the X Division stars with Shelley as his assistant and participant in many of the activities. He continued his task of videotaping different attacks and events for villainous stars.

In 2007, Shelley started to tag with Chris Sabin and they named themselves "The Motor City Machineguns." Their first feud was with Team 3D who tried to take down the entire X Division. They and Jay Lethal defeated Team 3D and Johnny Devine to save the X Division. In 2008, they joined the TNA Frontline to go against the Main Event Mafia but showed disrespect to their stablemates and Mick Foley, who joined TNA to help the Frontline.

In late 2008, Shelley qualified for the finals of the X Division title Tournament and he defeated his tag partner Chris Sabin for his first X Division Championship. In March 2009, he lost the title to Suicide in an Ultimate X match and was unable to regain the title the following month in the first ever X Division Championship King of the Mountain match. After this match, both Shelley and Sabin went inactive, barely appearing on television. In July 2009, they made an appearance on Impact holding signs that read "Yes, we still work here." They joined the fight against the World Elite and gained two TNA Tag Team title shots but have been unable to win the belts.
